Property description

MUSEUM OF THE PUCK REGION It is located in two historical houses at ul. Wałowa, and in a historical tenement house at pl. Wolności 28. The main seat of the Museum is the former city hospital built about 1725, as evidenced until lately by the date on the flag: 172. With blurred last digit. The tradition of such a hospital-asylum dates back to the medieval times. It neighboured with the Gdańsk Gate in front. The foundation of the hospital was supervised among others by Polish starosts and their wives. The hospital and the nearby church of St. George were destroyed at the end of the second Swedish war. A new one was constructed about 1725, when the starost of Puck was Piotr Przebendowski. His wife Urszula, known for her charity activity, probably contributed to the determination of a constant premium for covering part of the expenditures of the hospital. The former hospital neighbours with a one-storey house with a skeleton structure and a former forge at the back. The new outhouse at the hospital holds the Museum reception desk. The Museum features a permanent exhibition of the interior of a Kashubian cottage with full furnishings of the residential chamber and kitchen. A separate section informs on the traditions of folklore medicine. On 23 June 1987, The Museum of the Puck Region was awarded a tenement house at pl. Wolności 28 by the city authorities. It hosts the following exhibitions: “the Prehistory of the Puck Region”, “Portrait photography from the turn of the 19th and 20th century”, and temporal exhibitions. Subjects of museum workshops: German Order of Holy Mary in the Puck Region, Role of the fishing port throughout centuries, Archaeology on the sunken early medieval port in the Puck Bay, Secrets of the Earth revealed – experimental archaeology, How are vessels made – experimental archaeology, Traditional Kashubian fishery – boats, tools, fishing methods, Lesson "o tabace", Kashubian literature and language.
